In November 2021, ACON, AusPATH and LGBTIQ+ Health Australia (LHA) published a short evidence brief exploring gender affirming surgery in Australia.
Trans people – binary and non-binary – who can live free and equal, connected to trans communities and with access to gender affirmation are protected against trans suicidality and suicide. In pursuit of these goals, we present this evidence brief on surgical gender affirmation (attached and linked).
A key component of this brief, developed for ACON by Shoshana Rosenberg, Liz Duck-Chong and Teddy Cook, co-signed by AusPATH and LHA, reflects on the benefits and barriers of surgery. It also offers a breakdown of advocacy opportunities for each state and territory, and federally.
